You go back to it and reset your nose and any other senses, when needed. I was recommended this as an alternative to tom ford. Great to cool off with and refresh. Nice to have it and take out on hot days, but the quality didn't convince me.. Basically no staying power but that should be expected as its an eau de cologne. When I reached High School he started buying me my own bottle. It was summer and people didnt bathe very often, so public trains smelled like a mixture of 4711 and funky pits (the funky-pit smell was stronger). I love that this has been in production since 1792, how amazing is that? In all honesty, if you sprayed orange blossom water on yourself it'd probably project further and last longer than this. It settles down a little more slowly and remains as a skin scent for a couple of hours. There is no mention of any Woody or musky notes and I really wish this website would get it right! Enjoy the inexpensive price, use as intended, appreciate the old world charm it represents. This cologne is a dive into the past. Got this for my husband (he wanted something citrusy and refreshing), ended up using it myself. It's a very classic sort of a scent. Good quality in a low price. An absolute classic. 4711 is pleasant and inexpensive. 200+ years in, and I don't care what anyone else says, it's the ultimate complex but easy, classy but approachable, good on everyone everytime scent. Fresh, sporty and somewhat restrained animalic. Simple - citrus, herbal, slightly floral, lasts about 2 seconds, but that's what it's supposed to do. The notes smell very natural as well, and not synthetic at all. Ideal cologne to take on a summer vacation before trotting to the beach with the wife and kids. It's like opening a window to your inner being to let some fresh air and sunshine in. I especially dislike the powdery scent that's left once all the citrus scent evaporates in its first 5 minutes. Smells like a luxurious German hotel shower gel from 1800s. I wish it lasts longer but it's super affordable so I always buy the biggest bottle and decant it into spray bottles which I have in my purse and desk drawer. Perfect summer fragrance. On drydown it smells mainly of soapy neroli; it is extremely pleasant. I for one like this but will admit it doesnt last but 1-2 hrs max on my skin. This used to be my grandmother's signature scent. It is so cheap, it's a no brainer, a 300ml bottle can be purchased for 15. I know my question may sound a bit silly, but here it goes: I was hoping this would be a very light and refreshing scent that I could overly spray throughout the day as a pick-me-up in hot & sweaty NYC summers. Still worth getting a bottle though, the scent itself is divine. Growing up in Germany in the 70ies and 80ies this was as common in a family bathroom cabinet as a tube of tooth paste. There's no such thing as spraying too much. So here are my initial thoughts. The one that started off the name "cologne" 228 years old but still classy and relevant. However, that being said I love 4711, so they are not the exact same, but FBN goes in a different direction that just disturbs my nose, where as 4711 is a better refined version, but a hell of a lot weaker. 4711 is the original Tom Ford Neroli Portofino - a close relative of most modern fresh, aromatic-citrusy fragrances. Year 1792, nice to meet you! This isn't a cologne for others to smell on you; it's a splasher, a cool boost for the face whether it be on a hot day or after shaving. I thought it smelled cheap and forgot I had it. Not long lasting, just a lovely refresher when you need a pick me up. It's a gorgeous, uplifting classic. That bitter citrus in the opening is addictive to me, WANNA KEEP SNIFFING. I'm so happy that, unlike the Guerlain, the scent remained the same. Its unique for sure. It smells ok and I bought uncented hand wipes that I added two tablespoons of this to each 20 pack. If you like fresh citrusy and floral fragrances, you will enjoy 4711. Once I saw a picture of it years later and knew the name, I bought a bottle for myself, just to see if it smelled like I remembered. You spray/splash this on hot days and if feels REALLY refreshing.I love it. It's one of the best fresh, green scents I've tried. The difference with 4711 is that it has and will continue to endure because it smells so damn good!
It gives the scent something to hold onto. Any way I always need this darn thing around for that reason and probably always will lol. Lush! I wish there was a product that could increase weak scents. Ideal for the summer days when you really need something fresh and playfull.
longevity is pretty poor though but i guess it's within the realm expected for an edt!! Wow. While my significant other ran on an emergency trip to home depot to replace it, I stayed behind trying to stay cool. Like the bitter rind of a lemon. This is the only fragrance that my German grandmother would wear, 4711 is distinctly European, fresh rather than perfumey. Yes, what Srimati wrote! Citrus and herbs! It's too weak to be used as a fragrance. First, yes - it does smell similar to TF Neroli Portofino, no doubt. I ended up using this as a linen spray (I have the 3oz spray version). Shocking how short a time this splash lasts no more than 20 minutes. And it's gone in my opinion buying this is a complete waste of money. That's how I feel after buying a dam 300ml bottle. 4711 has been used in my family at least 4 generations deep but not for anything NORMAL like spritzing it on when youre heading out but instead whenever you get cut on the knee or a scrape on the arm etc LOL! This is one of my favorite fragrances. At least it's cheap and well made. Such a fresh scent. Its not something that you just dab on. Classic for a reason. I wish it lasted longer as it disappears rather quickly. I was introduced to 4711 by an acquaintance back in the early 1980's and have loved it like a flighty friend ever since. This is a really lovely pick me up. It was the must have, and really made you feel clean and fresh on or after a flight. 4711 was a household staple in my family -- it was a foregone conclusion that, when my grandparents visited Europe, they would be bringing back little bottles of 4711 as gifts (with the soaps to match). If you want it to last longer, decant some into an atomiser and spray. to me, this perfume straight up smells like neroli water. I would recommend buying a huge 800mL bottle and decant it into the 90 mL with an atomizer so you can say a whole bunch of money. I purchased this today as my refresher quarantine fragrance. I think it suits very well for older people. However this is a great and extremely cheap cologne that I really enjoy using as a traditional aftershave after a good shave. I bought a large 200 ml splash bottle of this and simply decant it in a travel atomizer that I carry with me, which I spray before I'm meeting people at times. One of the things I love about perfume is that inexpensive purchases can be just as cheering (if not more so) than expensive ones. Unisex, though some might think its more masculine. My bottle doesn't have a spray nozzle either, so this is going to be used as a hand sanitizer most likely. Moreover, it is linear along the time, for those that liked it from the beggining, won't have any bad surprise later. You just need to realize that it is not a cologne meant for others; it is a 'me' cologne that is meant for you to enjoy. 300ml for 14 seemed a bargain so bought some. I am mainly going to wear this on clothing. By its composition, it resembles 4711. This is so yummy. But the scent is gone in a few minutes. It reminds me of the only members of that side of my family that I actually liked. To me, this smells like summertime and vaguely reminds me of something from my early childhood in the late 70s.I wish I knew what! 4711 EDC is the perfect pick me up during Summer or those especially hot days. My timeless classic for years for the summer when the heat and heat are overwhelming. I found my new bottle at a thrift store, and this is something I'd have probably never have blind bought, so this was quite a serendipitous find for me. Worth having just for the historical significance and as a quick splash on for no real reason other than to wear it. This is such a classy, light yet full of depth Spring or Summer fragrance, the Basil and Cedar really blending to perfection. They both had exquisite taste in just about everything, and this makes me think of wonderful Christmases at their house, and their photos from Tahiti and Molokai. A wearable and enjoyable piece of history thats incredibly affordable - how often can you say that? Well this smells better than any air freshener you can buy, it's inoffensive and it will linger around long enough for the bad odor to pass. You should probably get one of the bigger bottles if you like it, (10.1 oz/300 ml+) as you will use a lot more than you think over time, with negligible price differences between the sizes. Spray heavy on your shirt and it lasts for hours. It's versatile, refreshing, impresses my daughter when used as a flame thrower. Interesting comments about the brief but pleasant hit & the "training wheels" aspect of frag-centric matriarchs preparing their daughters for olfactory adventures future. Very nice cologne. A must-have classic. It's amazing how it smells like Neroli Portofino although there is no neroli in here! I recently watched (with a smile of affection) Billy Joel liberally douse his bald head with it halfway through a sweaty summer concert. That doesn't mean I think it smells like old ladies, or my grandpa. It certainly has a lot of fans. Thats what it smells like. Despite all of the fragrances that have come and gone from my collection this one has been in the rotation since I've been in high school. Finally I've found my perfect bedtime fragrance which smells like good quality neroli-citrusy cologne and is cheap :).
It's so frustrating that it has zero lasting power! I loved it, the exotic beautiful bottle, the beautiful fragrance that took me away somewhere. It's fresh and sweet (just a little) a bit like a citric candy. I bought a 90mL with atomizer because I prefer spraying to splashing a bunch of fragrance into my hand and applying it. It doesn't last very long but it's a very refreshing pick me up Spritz during the day. I was always fascinated by my nana's vanity. Even though it's not mentioned in the notes, I get strong Neroli throughout. Very refreshing, last about 15 minutes - then gone.. Unisex, but tends towards masculine. Expectation can be a dangerous thing and following a lot of reviews I was expecting something fresh and at least a little citrusy. It's the dominant note! Heres the thing, I hate Ferrari Bright Neroli. Smells like old ladies, but not in a good way in my brain. Only lasts about 30 minutes on the skin, but that 30 minutes is heaven to me. Clean, refreshing, somewhat herbal. I bought my bottle years ago because Holly Golightly used it. Secondly, for an EDC, I'm getting surprising longevity as a skin scent compared to some other 4711 offerings. Such a delight all the way, from the (extremely) citrusy start to the amazing woody dry drown. I couldn't figure out which note it was at first but I did notice immediately it reminded me of Bobby Brown Beach. calming fragrance and since it does not last I give it a spritz or two on my pillow to help me fall asleep. Worth it tho! I love this. I don't even know if this comes in a spray version? I wanted to have a fragrance with some historical value and I suppose I was prepared for how weak this stuff is by the reviews but smelling or rather lack of smelling is believing. Some of the criticism of 4711 has me laughing. I mean it is the winter over here and it's morning so I figured a wake-me-up could be of use, but this isn't sustaining at all. Now I dont know if its just me but it seems as your body temperature rises it activates it, at least on my skin. A lot of it gets left on the floor, but the price is right for this type of compulsive behavior. A sassy splash, from the past into the present. My very first scent, I must have been 6 years old. It is a childhood memory and a tradition, which I still relish to this day. But I think thats what this spray is for, just a little pick me up, refreshing spritz and gone. 4711 is a weird one and I like originals. Keep this in the fridge to slap on the pulse points on hot days. and I did. Yes this does not last at all but that's reflected in the price. Much cheaper than buying the refreshing ten pack of wipes that this brand sells. Longevity is 5 minutes and absolutely no projection, oh well maybe like 5 mins as well. It reminds me of window cleaner or some other harsh chemical smell. The original cologne. Its a fantastic hand sanitiser. I don't mind respraying 100x a day, to me every application is a delight. Its quite similar to Florida water. Umema: The Perfume That'll Never Be Smelled, Carner Barcelona - the Summer Journey Collection, Jean Paul Gaultier Scandal Pour Homme Le Parfum, Amber and Ambergris are Two Different Notes, Rice Perfumes That Stand Out From the Crowd, Should You Smell Someone Before Talking to Them? The white florals are bright and fresh but there is a very alcoholic blast at first. This is absolutely gorgeous but so ephemeral and fleeting I dont know if I would repurchase. Very cheap but worth it. I actually get better longevity and projection by attaching a 10ml atomiser to the head and spraying it over myself (8-10 sprays). Makes a lovely aftershave splash. It's deceptively simple but actually complex. Smells like summer. This fragrance is like placing one's face into a flower bush of jasmine or honeysuckle and taking a deep breath in. I have the 5.8 oz. This is a true "cologne". I've had this fragrance since I was 9 or 10 (halcyon days), always remembering that refreshing lemon/citrus opening evolving to an evocative green that I am sure is neroli. After reading all the reviews here, i ordered it online as a blind buy thinking it will be similar to Neroli Portofino by Tom Ford. I bought a massive bottle of this to use as hand sanitizer during pandemic. It's the most refreshing scent, it's wonderful, you feel like you are clean and have spent time swimming in a lake on a sunny day. Beautiful, bright, fresh, tangy, astringent citrus that feels like a summer day in a bottle.
I bought my 100ml splash bottle during a visit to the eponymus flagship store in Cologne while looking for the Farina Cologne Museum - for some reasons I took the former for the latter and was disappointed to see a scentless eau de cologne fountain as the sole attraction! I have an 800ml bottle which I decant into a little atomiser. Love this stuff and will never be without it, even though I seldom use it as personal fragrance. As strange as it may sound, this is my favorite cologne in the world. In the middle of trying to meditate myself into a popsicle four numbers came to my mind, 4711. Something worn in the 18th century and probably still will be worn long after we here are all dead. I am not expecting the world from 16 300ml fragrance. On the official site of 4711, this eau de cologne contains just: I got this as a gift for my friend who knows everything about Napoleon, down to what cologne he used. It feels like a gentle, fresh and carefree Italian sunny day to me. I think one needs to understand the history of cologne to really appreciate that this is one of the originals, not a perfume, and certtainly not "newbie garbage"! I used to take a shower in this when i was a little girl. On me it lasts a little less well than another classic EDC; Acqua di Selva by Visconti di Modrone. I use this for my bedtime spray because something about the herbal/medicinal quality of it soothes me. Its smells nice. Longetivity and sillage are poor but that is balanced out by the very affordable price. Some have commented that it lasts up to 30 min, for me it seems more like 5-10 min. The smell reminds me of old times the 1920's, people wearing suits as everyday attire. Its a nice herby (almost medicinal) and citrus barbershop cologne scent that revitalizes the senses. I remember not really thinking much about it but I was always drawn to the bottle as it was a fixture on her bathroom vanity. Maybe of the taste of black Halls candies. There was always a bottle of one or the other sitting on the bathroom counters where anyone in the family could splash themselves with it after a shower or bath, or just to cool off. It's weak and that's how it's designed to be. Its only flaw? I got 90 ml bottle for like $5 or less, just to check it's vintage roots. It only left ickiness on my hands like after using a hand-sanitiszer. I splash some on the back of my neck after washing up for bed. My sister picked up a few bottles of this, mostly for nostalgic reasons, and gave one to me. They are not playing in the orientals yard And you can't compare this to TF's Portofino, please, check the price tag. It has that slightly medicinal vibe that is just so fresh and feels like it's doing you good. Instant heat relief! Performance is dismal, but that is to be expected from such a product, especially at its price point. 10 seconds of pure and simple pleasure. It's great for a dab on a handkerchief to cool down on a hot day. This EDC opens with a strong citrus scent, almost comparable to laundry detergent, but passes down to the jasmine and rose after a minute of application. My grandma used it, my mom used it, and now I use it. If you were raised in the middle east and ever set foot in a flower distillery, you for sure, know this smell. Very fresh and astringent . It's a bit strong for me though.

This is great for a cologne. This scent, all bright citrus kick and alcoholic spice backlit that beautiful trip - a little ass-kicker of a fragrance, cheeky and invigorating but still utterly classic! Sharp but sweet, like the leaves of a lemon tree. This is where my love for citrus, jasmine, and sandalwood comes from. It is citrusy and sharp at first but a short time later there's a creamy sweetness that develops. I love it on myself, my (ex-)boyfriends, on everyone, everywhere. They come as a powder that you add to plain water and they create an intensely fizzy, lemon-y, salty drink that's like nothing else. It is not long lasting but gives you a clean solid 'hit' of awake & clean, perfect for any time you need a quick pick me up! Seems silly not to add it to the necessary cheapies list c/o fragancenet, along with its delightful Maurer & Wirtz brother, Tabac Shower Gel. I understand perfectly from whence Acqua di Parma took inspiration for their original Colonia - yes, AdPs effort is richer and has more body.. Fresh yet layered. This was the first fragrance I ever wore. A classic that still has all these high-priced bergamot and neroli fragrances beat! I cannot rate this fragrance fairly because we all know 4711 is more of an aftershave/EDC more than anything else. So happy with this. 4711 has spiritually protective uses and it is also useful for refreshing the mind. Either it improved with age or my tastes have changed drastically. Regret buying HUGE bottle even with its cheap price.
It was originally called a "miracle water". Pretty straightforward, beautiful yet fleeting. What better place to try it and purchase it than Cologne! I really need this in my stash at all times! The first real cologne is 1709 Eau de cologne by Farina (Giovanni Maria Farina was the first creator of cologne). To me it was woodsy with a nice balance of citrus. I would absolutely not guess that this was priced in the "cheapie" category from smelling it. A true classic cologne. The fragrance does not lean masculine or feminine - and I actually bought a bottle of this for my mom as well. I wear many different fragrances but I can literally feel the start of a terrible headache coming from this one. My go to frag when Im jogging or at the gym. I wish it lasted longer. This is a good inexpensive mood lift, but I do agree our body chemistry can influence a direction a fragrance will take, as this lacks projection it could easily swing badly for some. I have worn this since being a child. My grandmother had only one perfume, and it was this one. It's fresh and re-energizing.
