TIP: take the first train from Wernigerode (departure at 08.55 am in 2021) as this will be the most quiet ride. The summer holidays in Germany are spread out between the middle of June and the middle of September. A good lunch can be eaten at the mountain hut on Hexentanzplatz or any of the other restaurants around it. The old town center is the perfect place to stroll around for a couple of hours. Mount Brocken, the highest peak in northern Germany, is covered in mist for roughly 300 days out of the year.
