The M16 is another great example. I also find the Patagonia try to sag at the waistline more then the crye do, both are very comfortable compared to normal military issue pants but crye take the cake for me, and I got both for free. It'd be unfair to say I'm not biased in my decision, but to my defense, most guys I know if given a choice would choose Crye 99/100 times.

I'm pretty sure Crye still has the patent on their style of knee pad and pocket, so obviously Patagonia couldn't just rip it off. Delivery cost is not included into the order and must be paid separately, according to the delivery service tariffs. 
Crye introduced their beautiful work of art into the tactical world years ago, and in my opinion will always be the gold standard.

In summary, I think you'd be happy with both, but I don't think you'd ever question your decision after buying a pair of Crye's. Crye combat pants are better than Patagonia L9 in most respects. When Patagonia copied their blueprint, they experienced massive failures in durability. I was recently issued the Level 9 uniforms and have to say i like them a bit more than the Crye Uniforms. 
Other than that i love this uniform. I have 2 Versions of the Lvl 9 uniforms. When you get a government contract for an item you give the government the rights to the design. think a Patagonia 34L is close to sizing as a CRYE 32R? The latest L9s I've seen are using printed stretch material rather than solid and are actually the same as Crye G3s with the stretching gusseted crotch. Orders over UAH 10,000 are sent with an advance payment of UAH 200 for the delivery of goods. 
The reason why is the feel an fit of the uniform. Patagonia isn't terrible anymore.
i can see this eventually wearing the tweeve here out as well as when not wearing the knee pads (which i rarely do).

I absolutely prefer the Crye Field top, but the Patagonia combat top is pretty solid. Anybody who got those 2 uniforms and can how they compare. Because the AOR1/2 sets were produced to NSW specifications and NSW specified they need to fit Crye knee pads. You can make a case that L9s are patterned better, and that Crye just uses stretch to get around otherwise poorly fitted pants, but in the end Cryes are more comfortable and the kneepads are better.
There are Velcro straps on the back under the knee to help control the fit of the knee pad to the leg. Sendings "Justin" and "Ukrposhta" are made on: Mon, Wed, Fri. Also no strechy crotch like on the Crye Gen 3.The strechy crotch is more of a comfort thing as i have never ripped my crotch out in any variant of any uniform mentioned. The difference for me is that the Lvl 9 uniform feels and fits better than the Crye uniforms, and in real combat situations being comfy is always the most important aspect when available.

In terms of comfort, I believe Crye has more adjustment "settings" than Patagonia, but I'd need to verify and my pants are at work. 
So Im looking for some Multicam combat pants with built in kneepads and both look cool but despite this being a fashion sub, comfort is a point Id like to have.

That should have dawned on me but didn't lol thanks carbon. I have the Army issued multicam version with the snap in joint protection and i have the Navy Version in AOR1/2 that still uses the Crye Joint Protection. The only reasoning was the kneepads on the pants and the pockets on the shirts though. Ive only run cryes, but i know pats dont have back pockets and the knee pads are more expensive, id personally stick with cryes. But why do the AOR1/2 Patagonia pants have the sane knee pad pocket as crye and the multicams do not? is not a payer of income tax on a general basis

There's actually more than one version floating around, and I've seen different newer variations of the L9 pants both with/without Crye style knee pads.

They came up with their own thing, which consists of the foam inner pad, which has 4 push the dot snap buttons and goes into the pants, and a outer shell piece which snaps onto the pad from the outside, via 4 holes in the pad pocket. For tops it's a bit more of a toss-up. I like both versions but have issues with them both, and though they are small i will post them because hopefully it will help you make your decision. For example, the Army Combat Pant are some kind of bastardized Crye combat pant (I think they are basically FR G3s), but ACPs are produced by Crye, Massif and two other lesser known companies. In fact, I like their kneepad design a bit more than Crye as their upgraded locking mechanism keeps the shell from popping off when taking a knee in mud, or in Crye's cases, being sucked out of the slot. The Level 9 uniform is sewn by Patagonia for USSOCOM units and to this day is actively used by the fighters of American special forces. Also the Lvl 9 uniforms have a cinch system above and below the Joint Protection that allows you to tighten the knee pads to your knee rather than height adjustment on the Crye's.
