If you are selling your work, then you have entered a woodworking dimension with added complexity and stress. I vent outside, and some times would like to have a CV max, like when I am sanding. The Oneida outperforms the CV on my longest duct runs, but just slightly. That becomes more important if you use a drum sander a lot. I dont currently have a 220V circuit in the shop. Im not going to bash Oneida but Im not going to give them a plug here either. Particularly in a small cramped shop. I can do a review in a few months if theres interest, but just a highlight. It does require more effort than the Oneida for setup and more attention to detail, but once it was set up, its been great. My guess is that all the vendors will give you a 10% discount if you pressure them, some will just do it right off the bat (I had one out of 3 that I contacted give me the 10% off with the initial quote with out asking). Ive seen and read some negative things about both but more concerning reviews with ClearVue. Im new to this world but looking to get a Clearvue 1800 and itll be set-up for a little less than a year before moving to a new home. I have it tucked against a wall behind /around my jointer. The Jet has two 4 outlets (or one 6 if you take the 4 outlets off). More air is certainly going to make it louder. My experiences with them over the years has been nothing short of exemplary. So, will the 2.5/3 HP models do as well.probably, but there are so many factors involved it's hard to say. The objective evidence that it works well for me is that the particle count in my shop stays less than 200 when I m out there for an afternoon and running tools. The overhead pipe might have been nice, but a had to go around a triple laminated beam which would have added four 45 degree els to the pipe and been a pain to plumb on a 9 ft ceiling. jfska has the right of it, I think. I started building sewer pipe overhead run then decided to abandon the idea and use a sewer pipe run behind a bench on one wall and run a 4 inch flex hose across a 42 inch path to my table saw. They were always nice to talk to but from what I can tell the first level staff sales and tech support know very little. Anyone have experience with this? My jointer, planer, bandsaw, cabinet saw and router table are all fitted with Rockler's 4" tool port adaptors. Great company! Even sucking straight from the 18 inch bandsaw to the DC through 20 + ft of pipe and hose suffered and left dust.
You will need to move the hose from machine to machine. They are portable, fairly quiet, have large steel impellers, built in cyclone, remote control and, since you are not limited to a budget, the auto clean option is a nice thing to have.
You will not have to out source anything. I think the quality between the two companies is very similar. That said CV claims that CV1800 is 79 DB now, so I wonder if that was a change recently to the system. Ive also run some 2.5 ducting in and put my shop vac in the external room as well.
Let me clarify, when I say an annex room I really mean a room external to the garage. Theres good information there and Im basing much of my decisions on that information. After that while, the blast gates get jammed with dust so don't close, the joints in the pipe work loose (unless you seal them permanently, then you can't clear blockages) and the cheap bag on the DC just discharges fine dust into the air. Is it OK to copy projects from the magazine?
Interested in my woodworking, workshop and whatnot? A quality cyclone will take up less space as it can be hung on a wall. With just a 4 port open it is pushing 76+ db. I still have the same 1.5 horse dust collector but it is now combined with permanent over-head duct work. Lastly, about the metal CVhad that one been available when i bought mine, I would have got it. I've been where you are for 10 years and am still changing things to find the perfect solution other than going from 400 Sq ft to an addition. Both systems look good but which one is better? I would try to connect as many of the machines to dust collection as you can manage since moving suction hoses around as you change machines is a pain.
