The additional space on the back is good for writing special instructions such as soak seeds before planting or biennial plant. So I decided to make my own, and started by taking apart empty packets from five of my favorite seed companies.
I'm not particularly savvy when it comes to computers, having learned everything I know from my two friends, Trial and Error.
I am the co-editor of a monthly Master Gardener newsletter. Then I saved it again and printed it.
Learning to save just one or two types of seeds each season is a great way to build skills without becoming overwhelmed. We have a great selection of products in every Spooky Box. They're not particularly practical, but they are pretty, pastel and petiteideal as wedding or baby shower favors. Love them!!
I'm going to do this with my daughter as gifts for the family this Christmas. There are some flower seeds that are really easy to save.
It is broken down into easy vegetable seeds, intermediate seed savers, and hard vegetable seeds, as well as herbs and flowers.
I learned that the hard way, too!

7 years ago There are two options, click to download: A normal 3.25" x 4.5" envelope like we send your seeds in - but you can only get one from each sheet of A4. I am not a doctor, lawyer, veterinarian or Martha Stewart. Now I have another great use for my Trader Joe's and Whole Foods paper bags. I like the idea, too. I'm also trying to get an early start on inexpensive stocking stuffers and gifts for the holidays, and thought that some hand-illustrated packets of seeds might be welcome little treasures for my gardening friends. What we cant grow or produce ourselves we barter for. Here are a few great ideas! If I were a computer-savvy seed saver (which I somewhat am), I might add my own text and graphics to these plain seed packet templates. I went through all the loose seeds and collected all that looked the same. Well Done!! Once the printed template is in your hands, it's very clear and easy process. Now, I have no idea what type of kale Im putting in the new packet that Iprinted out (you can get yours above), but at least I know which vegetable it is.

For way too many years, I've squirreled away my saved seeds in whatever envelope, baggie, or jar happened to be handy. If your envelope is printed, flip it printed side down. Hey Pavlo! I ended up making two versions. If you are lucky, a few seeds may be trapped in the corners of the paper packets. You could put seeds in these packets and give them out as gifts. How better to put extra seed to good use than by packaging it in attractive homemade packets and giving it to friends and family? 6 years ago I wanted my packets to be nicely sized (some are just so big!
Only a few days ago, my older son and I sorted out our seed collection by variety. We think these are the best seeds you can sow, and we really hope that you enjoy growing your vegetables from them. Sweep up your seeds and dump the dustpan onto a white surface. Seed packets make sweet and thoughtful gifts.

Most vegetable and fruit seeds last two or three years, but proper conditions can extend that period.

How nice these are and I'm already thinking of more uses. 8.5 x 8.5 is an easy proportion to get from standard letter paper, and will give you a size roughly similar to a commercial seed packet. If you are unsure whether your seeds are viableor not, you can try this simple germination test.
Or this slightly smaller version, which is more fiddly to fold, but you do get two envelopes per sheet of A4. I was heartbroken.
I saw this great trick for saving flowers that I might have to implement this year in my self-seeding annual beds. Next, I opened the file in Paint and inserted a text box over the label area to add the seed's name. I used a large sheet of poster board. I love the table setting idea, and using them as gift tags is my next choice. Happiness saved is the seed; happiness shared is the flower.

I adopted the contours I liked the best, and settled on a shape and size that's a composite of my favorites.
Take corn, for instance, I plant the first lot of seeds, then two or three weeks later, I plant the second lot, and so on for about a month.
I have a lot of cardstock that would work for the bigger seeds. When you grow your own garlic you select the best cloves for planting. After printing, just cut along the outline, fold the edges, and glue or tape the edges in place to seal. Some of these treasured seeds came from dear friends and family. This is my go-to, because I've been really enjoying trying my hand at a little botanical sketching lately, so it's helpful to start with a plain, blank envelope. And, although they're great as is, they're quick and easy to customize using Microsoft Paint.
)For tiny seeds that you're trading, or just to get more envelopes from your paper supply, you can start with a small square for an even smaller envelope.

So, using the instructions on this site, you've saved your seed from carefully selected plants, having of course followed the appropriate instructions for isolation and/or population sizes, and then dried it and winnowed it , giving you a huge amount of lovely seed. It makes you feel connected, despite distance and time.
I like to keep a few empty ones on hand in my seed stash for impromptu seed collecting missions! I use these packets not only to save seeds for personal use but also for sharing seeds with friends and family.

One last tip - I print and cut out a copy of the packet on good heavy card stock, and keep it as a re-usable stencil. That way, I can use it to trace the packet template onto oddly-shaped bits of paper that won't fit through the printer. I use pantyhose on my sunflowers to keep the seeds from dropping and keep the birds from eating them.

Many other free seed packet templates are available online. And there's also this slightly gussied-up version, with tidy lines for writing in your information. It took me about 15 minutes from start to finish to customize and assemble one of them, and I'm not particularly handy with computers or scissors. Somewhere between the last hot days of summer and the early chill of Autumn, there's a certain mayhem that descends upon my kitchen. Thanks so much for the kind words, Regina!! Then in edit mode, I resized it twice, saving both a large and a small-sized packet template. Once the flower heads have dried, give the bag a shake and you will see the seeds separate from the dried plant matter.
When I went to bed, I had a well-organized stash of over 100 seed packets, all ready to go for the spring. I also didn't want fold lines printed out on the right side of my packets. I recently found some that hadn't dried properly before I put them in the bag and they spoiled.

It's a good way to make use of those small pieces of paper left over from gift-wrapping.

This envelope takes less than a minute to make, requires no glue nor fasteners, can be made from any size paper (as long as it's square), and can easily be closed/reopened. I love it.
You dont want togerminate the seeds with your tears. If I were a scrapbooker or one of those Martha Stewart types who has an entire area devoted to gift wrap, I might print or trace the template onto scrapbook paper, cardstock or heavy wrapping paper. Wait until the flowers have begun to die back and clip the heads into a paper bag.

And I love the idea of using paper scraps to make these envelopes. For either version, just print it, cut it out, fold at the marks, apply adhesive to the places indicated, and let it dry.

You can also experiment with different colors of paper for even better organization. That one's downloadable here. You may even be able to identify the variety before it goes into the ground. The same general idea works for all open-pollinated non-hybrid plants. But as I said, sometimes disaster strikes. Proudly maintained by bdthree . The seed packets are useless once opened, so these printable packets give me a better chance to save the seeds for when Im ready to plant!!
Annual flower seeds generally stay good for one to three years, with perennials lasting for two to four years. You will get great seed, and great vegetables adapted to your local conditions. I've included this template as a PDF, but it's optional. .now what? They provide an opportunity to practice the skill before tackling more advanced fruits, vegetables, and herbs. Our Seed Club: Due to ridiculous seed laws here in the UK, many of our fantastic vegetable seeds cannot in theory be supplied to the public, because they are not on the UK National List of permitted vegetable varieties1 But we do supply them to members of our seed club.
