Taming of a Wild Research Well in Yellowstone National Park during November 1992. Here, we introduce a novel statistical method that effectively eliminates spurious hotspots while retaining genuine hotspots. The Artemis structure, located in Aphrodite Terra, is proposed to be a large corona. We find that (i) hotspots still exacerbate epidemics, (ii) when infectious individuals do not travel to the hotspot, the most vulnerable individuals are those residing at intermediate distances from the hotspot rather than nearby, and (iii) the epidemiological vulnerability of a population is the highest when the number of hotspots is intermediate. In an effort to make road and weather information more readily available to travelers and maintenance personnel, Montana is implementing the Greater Yellowstone Regional Traveler and Weather Information System (GYRTWIS). From our perspective, such findings provide a conceptually straightforward solution to the hotspot paradox and can explain other, seemingly complex features of meiotic recombination. The Yellowstone Hotspot presents a unique opportunity to image a thin plume because it is the only hotspot with a purported deep origin that has a large enough aperture and density of seismometers to accurately sample the lower mantle at the length scales required to image a plume. Some of the data collected, such as the phytoplankton chlorophyll-a data, were referenced or summarized in previous U.S. Geological Survey reports but were not previously published in tabular form, and therefore are presented in this report, prepared in cooperation with the Montana Department of Environmental Quality. ?t d- 1 at HSB. In this paper, we explain the need to include the etch component during multiple patterning OPC. Together with other geophysical and thermal data, the seismic results indicate that a sub-lithospheric thermal anomaly is responsible for the time-progressive volcanism along the, Continued warming could transform Greater Yellowstone fire regimes by mid-21st century, Anthony L. Westerling; Monica G. Turner; Erica A. H. Smithwick; William H. Romme; Michael G. Ryan. We used Akaike's Information Criterion (AICc) and multi-model inference to assess a number of potentially useful predictive models relative to explanatory covariates for demography, human disturbance, and habitat. Also, about 5 km2 of thermal areas was added to the geodatabase of mapped thermal areas.
We carried out a global examination of distributions of all nonmarine mammals to determine patterns of species richness, endemism, and endangerment, and to evaluate the degree of congruence among hotspots of these three measures of diversity in mammals. These data represent some of the most complete analyses of Yellowstone waters available.
They also need a ranking of similar known patterns with a detected hotspot to prioritize layout pattern to be corrected. One method for detecting recombination hotspots, LDhot, has been used in a handful of species to further our understanding of the basic biology of recombination. For hotspots, median species distribution area protected within reserves declined monotonically from a high of 11% for 1-km2 networks down to 6% for 10,000-km2 networks. This will be the object of a future document. We aimed to test five alternative diversity measures for hotspot delineation and examine the efficacy of biodiversity hotspots for conserving a non-typical target organism, South African katydids. In this situation, a neural network is no longer reliable, because a trained model with high classification accuracy may still suffer from a high number of false negative results (missing hotspots), which is fatal in hotspot detection problems. The concept is called the Hot-Spot Search-Light (HSSL) satellite. Short sequence motifs, which are often sites for binding of transcription factors, are known to be responsible for a number of hotspots. Both models have been used to assess the viability of the fixed hotspot hypothesis in the Pacific. Ecologists need to significantly raise the profile of these discussions; understanding the forces that structure food webs and determine species abundance and the supply of ecosystem services is one of the central scientific questions for this century; its complexity will require new minds, new mathematics, and significant, consistent funding. Green, Gerald I.; Mattson, D.J. Recent studies in those four areas are also reported. Much progress is needed on this if we are to verify the past and potential environmental and climatic impact of these super-eruptions. Alternatively, this could reflect the motion of the group of Indo-Atlantic hotspots relative to Hawaii. The model is applied to Io and Venus. Estimated cutthroat trout intake per year by the grizzly bear population was only a small fraction of that estimated by previous investigators, and males consumed 92% of all trout ingested by grizzly bears. Automated hotspot analysis with aerial image CD metrology for advanced logic devices, Buttgereit, Ute; Trautzsch, Thomas; Kim, Min-ho; Seo, Jung-Uk; Yoon, Young-Keun; Han, Hak-Seung; Chung, Dong Hoon; Jeon, Chan-Uk; Meyers, Gary. In successful treatments, however, hotspots were more frequently addressed (r = .48), and they were accompanied by more characteristics of hotspots (r = .39), such as an audible change in affect, indicating medium- to large-sized effects. Abendini, Atosa A.; Robinson, Joel E.; Muffler, L. J. Patrick; White, D. E.; Beeson, Melvin H.; Truesdell, A. H. This dataset contains contacts, geologic units, and map boundaries from Miscellaneous Investigations Series Map I-1371, "The Geologic map of upper Geyser Basin, Yellowstone, National Park, Wyoming". Ultraviolet mutagenesis of the shuttle vector plasmid pZ189 in Xeroderma Pigmentosum cells yields a mutational pattern marked by hotspots at photoproduct sites on both strands of the supF marker gene. PMID:26579074, Population Demographic History Can Cause the Appearance of Recombination Hotspots, Although the prevailing view among geneticists suggests that recombination hotspots exist ubiquitously across the human genome, there is only limited experimental evidence from a few genomic regions to support the generality of this claim. This methodology is demonstrated on industrial designs, where the fixing rate of single and dual layer hotspots is reported. In the SLIP hotspot, spectacled eiders and walruses are important winter consumers of infaunal bivalves and polychaetes, along with epibenthic gastropods and crabs. These two measures were inversely correlated, indicating that children in homesteads at higher transmission acquire immunity more rapidly. Human population, though sparsely distributed in general, is growing most rapidly in a few urban centers and resort areas, mostly in the northwestern part of the basin. We found that bullfrogs were associated with deeper waters, emergent vegetation and public-access sites, which are habitat features that characterize permanent waters and describe human-mediated introductions. Performance of Yellowstone and Snake River Cutthroat Trout Fry Fed Seven Different Diets. Water use is dominated by irrigated agriculture overall, but mining and public-supply facilities are major users of ground water. Elk wintered in 2 semidistinct herd segments and migrated 10140 km to at least 12 summer areas in Yellowstone National Park (YNP) and nearby areas of Montana. This report is based upon the observations of the exercise organizers during the one-day exercise and upon written evaluations by the participants. Cores from over 1000 cottonwoods along the Yellowstone, Powder, Little Missouri, and Redwater Rivers were collected from within a 170 km radius to reconstruct flows using the Age Curve Standardization technique in a multiple regression analysis. Zelt, Ronald B.; Boughton, G.K.; Miller, K.A. A kinematic model for the formation of the Siletz-Crescent forearc terrane by capture of coherent fragments of the Farallon and Resurrection plates. This approach requires managers to focus on processes and cross-scale interactions, rather than individual components. Growth was related to the proportion of rainbow trout genome present within the crosses. Spectral analysis showed significant decadal to multidecadal precipitation variability. We measure the ability of popular linkage disequilibrium-based programs to detect hotspots across a range of demographic histories, including population bottlenecks, hidden population structure, population expansions, and population contractions. 'Hotspots' for aggression in licensed drinking venues. PMID:22084420. Management guidelines accordingly recommend timber harvest as a technique for improving habitat in areas potentially dominated by lodgepole pine. Brass; Vincent G. Ambrosia; Philip J. Riggan; Paul D. Sebesta. ; Betancourt, J.L. Over 5.9km of core were drilled from three boreholes within the SRP in an attempt to acquire continuous core documenting the volcanic and sedimentary record of the hotspot: (1) Kimama, (2) Kimberely, and (3) Mountain Home.
The case study of the Arno river basin in Tuscany (central Italy) is presented. These areas are associated with high losses of primary vegetation and increased human population density, resulting in growing numbers of threatened species. The remaining gene, Prdm9, codes for a zinc finger containing histone H3K4 trimethylase that is expressed in early meiosis and whose deficiency results in sterility in both sexes. In an attempt to capture the habitat needs of Great Plains fish communities we are looking beyond previous habitat modeling methods. Faults, fissures, hydrothermally inflated domal structures, hydrothermal explosion craters, and sublacustrine landslides constitute potentially significant geologic hazards. Over multiple time scales, strong Yellowstone region precipitation anomalies were almost always associated with spatially extensive events spanning various combinations of the central and southern U.S. Rockies, the northern U.S.-Southern Canadian Rockies and the Pacific Northwest. Our results demonstrate that: (1) significant improvements in capturing hotspot effect can be made to this method by using the inverted hotspot parameters; (2) the reciprocal nature allow this method to be more adaptive for simulating the hotspot height and width with high accuracy, especially in cases where hotspot signatures are available; and (3) while the new approach is consistent with the heritage RTLSR model inversion used to estimate intrinsic narrowband and broadband albedos, it presents some differences for vegetation clumping index (CI) retrievals. In 2004, railway suicide accounted for 5.3% of all suicides in Belgium. The past influence of this hotspot can be assessed by mapping its present location onto a plate tectonic reconstruction of the western Pacific (Macpherson and Hall, 2001). PMID:26305934, Effects of perturbations and radial profiles on ignition of inertial confinement fusion hotspots. Biological hotspots are locations where organisms from different trophic levels aggregate to feed on abundant supplies, and they are considered a first step toward understanding the processes driving spatial and temporal heterogeneity in marine systems.
Connectivity should be restored via habitat restoration whenever possible to minimize losses in genetic diversity and to preserve historical processes of gene flow, life history variation, and metapopulation dynamics. This model could also be used for future comparisons as the hydrological regime changes. Clumped isotope measurements and refined floral coexistence methods from sites on the northern Colorado Plateau like Florissant and Creede (CO) consistently estimate low (< 2km) elevations through the Eocene/Oligocene, suggesting slower uplift and a south-north propagation of the plateau. From 1995 to 2000, deformation shifted to inflation and extension northwest of the caldera. The climatic conditions that allow oversnow vehicle use in Yellowstone are forecast by our methods to deteriorate significantly in the future.
This research was designed to assist the managers of Yellowstone National Park (YNP) in their decision making about winter visitation. PRDM9 function is also dosage sensitive; Prdm9+/- heterozygous null mice have reduced numbers and less active hotspots and increased numbers of aberrant germ cells. GPS deployments focused on the Yellowstone caldera, the Hebgen Lake and Teton faults, and the eastern Snake River Plain.
Rhyolite 1 is at least 1,340 m thick (the base was not cut by the core), has no apparent flow contacts or cooling breaks, and may represent a single, thick intracaldera ignimbrite. Holding other covariates constant, mortality was highest for bears that were subjected to repeated management actions and inhabited areas with high road densities outside Yellowstone National Park. It includes: (1) large-volume, lithic-poor rhyolitic ignimbrites with scarce pumice lapilli; (2) extensive, parallel-laminated, medium to coarse-grained ashfall deposits with large cuspate shards, crystals and a paucity of pumice lapilli; many are fused to black vitrophyre; (3) unusually extensive, large-volume rhyolite lavas; (4) unusually intense welding, rheomorphism, and widespread development of lava-like facies in the ignimbrites; (5) extensive, fines-rich ash deposits with abundant ash aggregates (pellets and accretionary lapilli); (6) the ashfall layers and ignimbrites contain abundant clasts of dense obsidian and vitrophyre; (7) a bimodal association between the rhyolitic rocks and numerous, coalescing low-profile basalt lava shields; and (8) widespread evidence of emplacement in lacustrine-alluvial environments, as revealed by intercalated lake sediments, ignimbrite peperites, rhyolitic and basaltic hyaloclastites, basalt pillow-lava deltas, rhyolitic and basaltic phreatomagmatic tuffs, alluvial sands and palaeosols. Paleomagnetic inclinations form a curious V-shaped profile, shallowing by about 18 between 700 and 1700 m depth. 102(2)(C) of the National Environmental Policy Act of Wyoming. ; Crock, J.G. Sampling and observations with a submersible remotely operated vehicle confirm and extend our understanding of the identified features. We assessed disease seroprevalences and blood parameters of 115 adult female elk (Cervus elaphus) wintering on the northern range of Yellowstone National Park [YNP] during 2000-2005 and compared them to data collected prior to wolf (Canis lupus) restoration (WR) in 1995 and to two other herds in Montana to assess this prediction. We suggest strategies for incorporating demographic history into population genetic inferences about recombination hotspots. Here we present the seismic velocity structure of the mantle underlying this region and erosion-corrected elevation maps of lava flows, and show that an area of reduced mantle melt content coincides with the 200-km-wide topographic uplift. McMenamin, Sarah K; Hadly, Elizabeth A; Wright, Christopher K. Amphibians are a bellwether for environmental degradation, even in natural ecosystems such as Yellowstone National Park in the western United States, where species have been actively protected longer than anywhere else on Earth. Finally, we combine defect prediction and verification capabilities for process monitoring by on-product, guided hotspot metrology, i.e. 'Hotspots' are moments of extreme distress during traumatising events that are implicated in symptoms of PTSD. recombination hotspots). The Impact of Field Experiences in Yellowstone National Park on Practice in Secondary Classrooms, The current study focused on how six participants of a 2009 professional development activity at Yellowstone National Park described their experience and classroom instructional impact. To tackle this we are employing a combination of tools to isolate and correlate individual layers: field logging coupled with characterization of the whole-rock, glass, and mineral chemistries, together with high-precision 40Ar/39Ar dating, U-Pb zircon dating, with detailed paleomagnetic characterisation of polarities and secular variations. Preliminary results appear to confirm ATLAS data utility for mapping and monitoring geothermal features. A seismic catalog is produced using a conventional STA/LTA detector and single-event location techniques (Hypoinverse). Given that ecological communities are responding to a changing climate and other, Evaluating Temporal Consistency in Marine Biodiversity Hotspots. Principal shallow aquifers are Tertiary sandstones and unconsolidated Quaternary deposits. Sublacustrine thermal vent waters (circa 5090C) contained elevated concentrations of numerous constituents associated with geothermal activity including dissolved hydrogen, sulfide, methane and carbon dioxide. PMID:22363606, The petrology of volcanic rocks from the St. Andrew Strait and helium isotope ratios of backarc lavas from the Manus Basin have been used to propose the existence of an active hotspot beneath the eastern Bismarck Sea (Johnson et al., 1978; Macpherson et al., 1998). Furthermore, the combined 40Ar/39Ar eruption ages and paleomagnetic results provide polarity anchors for the Pre-Olduvai excursion and Olduvai subchron, which are often used as tie-points in studies of early Pleistocene hominin evolution. The method corrects the volumetric scattering component of the RTLSR model using an exponential approximation of a physical hotspot kernel, which recreates the hotspot magnitude and width using two free parameters (C(sub 1) and C(sub 2), respectively). After sufficiently long time of simulations, the structure of chromosomes reached a dynamic equilibrium, in which number and global distribution of both hotspots and defective alleles remained statistically unchanged, while their precise positions were shifted. With the help of global radiance calibrated DMSP-OLS datasets (NTLgrc), we proposed an innovative framework to explore the spatio-temporal trajectory of polycentric urban nighttime light hotspots. The seismic refraction results in Yellowstone show no evidence of the low-velocity anomalies in the lower crust suggested by teleseismic P-delay data and interpreted as due to extensive partial melting. In the Norris-Mammoth Corridor, NNE-SSW trending linear resistivity and magnetic lows align with mapped faults. Grecian, W James; Witt, Matthew J; Attrill, Martin J; Bearhop, Stuart; Becker, Peter H; Egevang, Carsten; Furness, Robert W; Godley, Brendan J; Gonzlez-Sols, Jacob; Grmillet, David; Kopp, Matthias; Lescrol, Amlie; Matthiopoulos, Jason; Patrick, Samantha C; Peter, Hans-Ulrich; Phillips, Richard A; Stenhouse, Iain J; Votier, Stephen C. Upwelling regions are highly productive habitats targeted by wide-ranging marine predators and industrial fisheries. The electrocardiogram (ECG) has broad applications in clinical diagnosis and prognosis of cardiovascular disease. These analyses revealed no obvious dynamic changes in nucleosome occupancy, suggesting an intrinsic nature of recombinogenic sites, yet they also revealed that nucleosomes define zones of exclusion for CO resolution. Habitat hotspots - places attracting a large numbers of individuals or social groups - can significantly alter contact patterns and, hence, disease propagation. Elk monitored for multiple years typically returned to the same summer (96 fidelity, n 52) and winter (61 fidelity, n 41) ranges. Ostberg, C.O. PMID:28705979, A fuzzy pattern matching method based on graph kernel for lithography hotspot detection, Nitta, Izumi; Kanazawa, Yuzi; Ishida, Tsutomu; Banno, Koji. Hotspot containing proteins are involved predominantly in signaling processes confirming the surmised modulating role of hotspots in signaling and interaction events. The source-sink demography in the GYE is indicative of carnivore conservation issues worldwide where many national parks or preserves designed to protect out natural resources are inadequate in size or shape to provide all necessary life history requirements for these wide-ranging species. We estimated kinship and found only two of 30 natural breeding pairs showed evidence of being related (average r = -0.026, SE = 0.03). The use and management of OSVs in the parks is an issue Distribution of recombination hotspots in the human genome--a comparison of computer simulations with real data. Uplift began at the Sour Creek dome during August 1995 to September 1996 and spread to the Mallard Lake dome by June 1997. The Yellowstone bison represent the only bison population in the United States that survived in the wild the near-extermination of the late 1800's. Examination of the long-term record shows that the early 20th century was markedly wet compared to the previous 700??yr. Using continuum removal and least squares fitting algorithms in the US Geological Survey's Tetracorder expert system, the distributions of these vegetation types were determined by comparing the absorption features of vegetation in the spectral library with the spectra from the AVIRIS data. In addition, YVO seeks to characterize the behavior of geyser basins, both to detect any precursors to hydrothermal explosions and to monitor earthquakes related to fluid movements that are difficult to detect with the current monitoring system. We separate the topography associated with volcanism and the swell surrounding the hotspot chains using the MiFil filtering method (Adam et al., 2005). The accuracy of the evaluation (OPE) is 77.0%, 75.4% and the success rate is 69.7%, 66.4% on the VOT and OTB datasets. Ti contents in quartz also generally decrease from core to rim, but are uniformly lower than in those in TBP, suggesting that PP magma was colder than TBP magma. The list of land pollution hotspots included landfills and other waste handling facilities (e.g., temporary storage, treatment and recycling sites), municipal wastewater treatment plants, liquid waste treatment facilities and contaminated sites. The interviews identified several risk and protective factors for railway suicide, including the training of staff, introduction of a suicide prevention policy, and the role of the media. We show that lavas from mid-ocean ridges, volcanic arcs, and hotspots occupy distinct, nonoverlapping fields in a 3He/4He versus C/3He plot. Exterior sound level measurements of snowcoaches at Yellowstone National Park, DOT National Transportation Integrated Search. It is possible that residual stress in quartz provides a new geobarometer for crystallization pressure. Gas compositions are consistent with boiling directly off a deep geothermal liquid at depth as it migrates toward the surface. Locating biodiversity threat hotspots driven by consumption of goods and services can help to connect conservationists, consumers, companies and governments in order to better target conservation actions. We used telemetry locations collected from 140 adult female elk during 20002003 and 20072008 to identify factors influencing the migration of northern Yellowstone elk. Previously we showed that 300 l abundance hotspots, coldspots and background regions were distinct at all taxonomic levels. The Interagency Grizzly Bear Committee (IGBC; partnership of federal and state agencies responsible for grizzly bear recovery in the lower 48 states) and its Yellowstone Ecosystem Subcommitte (YES; federal, state, county, and tribal partners charged with recovery of grizzly bears in the Greater Yelowston Ecosystem [GYE]) tasked the Interagency Grizzly Bear Study Team to provide information and further research relevant to three concernsarising from the 9th Circuit Court of Appeals November 2011 decision: 1) the ability of grizzly bears as omnivores to find alternative foods to whitebark pine seeds; 2) literature to support their conclusions; and 3) the non-intuitive biological reality that impacts can occur to individuals without causing the overall population to decline. The large sample from trees spanning many age classes allows us to use only the rings that were produced when each tree was less than 50 years old and growth was most strongly correlated to river discharge. The hotspot effect, which provides important information about canopy structure, is modeled using general principles of environmental physics as driven by parameters of interest in remote sensing, such as leaf size, leaf shape, leaf area index, and leaf angle distribution. The University of Utah, the University of Texas at El Paso, and Yellowstone National Park collaborated to deploy Fairfield Nodal ZLand 3-C geophones concentrically centered around the Old Faithful Geyser with an average station spacing of 50 m and an aperture of 1 km.
